Gonzalo Quijandría: ” The SIMPOSIO new identity represents the importance of mining for the country”
Learn more about the new name for the event formerly known as the International Gold, Silver and Copper Symposium.
During May 21 and 23 of this year, the SIMPOSIO – XV International Mining Meeting will celebrate 30 years of history and contribution to the Peruvian mining industry, having become one of the most important forums for analysis and discussion of the main challenges of today’s mining industry, as well as its contribution to Peru’s economic growth.
The Sociedad Nacional de Minería, Petróleo y Energía (National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy, SNMPE) has been organizing this international meeting since 1994, when it was held under the name of “International Gold Symposium”, later renamed “International Gold and Silver Symposium” and, in 2022, “International Gold, Silver and Copper Symposium”.
Along these lines, and because it is a special anniversary edition, the flagship event of the SNMPE assumes a new identity and a new name as of this year: “SIMPOSIO – XV International Mining Meeting”.
To this regard, Gonzalo Quijandría, president of the Organizing Committee of the XV SIMPOSIO, said that this change reinforces the SNMPE’s commitment to position mining as an important factor for the growth of the domestic economy, as well as an agent for development and opportunities for the population.
“These 30 years that the SIMPOSIO is celebrating have been special for our industry: formal mining has made a tangential leap, not only in investments, exports, taxes, jobs and, therefore, boosting the development of our country; but also in good practices, innovation and high standards. Along these 30 years, we have consolidated our position as a very relevant player”, he pointed out.
